Giant Water Spiders

I was over on the pond crafting a dock to get a closer look at the ducklings and fowl and came across some giant water spiders. These are the biggest spiders I have seen in Canada so far.

They skimmed along on the water, which has a bunch of tiny green seeds floating on top, and on their underside are tiny root-like stems that hang in the water. Kind of like sea-kelp or lily-pads, except on a micro level.
